Sony confirmed that the Playstation event on Feb. 20 will be live streamed over the Internet for fans eager to see what the tech company will debut, according to GameSpot.

Sony released a teaser video last week hinting that the company will reveal details about the upcoming PlayStation 4 codenamed Orbis at the February event, however, it was not confirmed that they will announce the release of the device at the gathering.

If a release date is announced at the event, Sony will end rumors that the company will announce the device's release date at a separate press conference in March or even during E3 in June, according to Game Informer Magazine.

Even if Sony introduces the next PlayStation in a little over two weeks, it is still not clear when the new console would hit store shelves.

The last time Sony held a PlayStation event was in January 2011, where it presented a prototype of its handheld Vita console. Before that, it convened a gathering in 2005 two months after it first demonstrated the PS3 concept. A meeting in 1999 revealed designs for the PS2.

It is also possible that Sony will release the game in time for the London Games Conference in November. MCV reported that the Nov. 13 event will focus on the new hardware expected to shape the gaming industry over the next half-a-decade, which would give Sony the perfect environment to unveil the PS 4.

The rumored specifications for the PS4 includes the following: an 8GB system memory, 2.2 GB video memory, an eight-core AMD64 "Bulldozer" CPU and an AMD R10XX GPU, four USB 3.0 ports, a Blu-Ray drive, 160GB HDD, an audio output equipped with HDMI & Optical, 2.0, 5.1 & 7.1 channels and possibly a new design for the DualShock controller.

The upcoming PlayStation event will reportedly take place in New York on Feb. 20 at 6:00 p.m.
