Vegas Theater Shooting Leaves Two In Critical Condition In Parking Structure Dispute, Details
An overnight shooting outside a movie theater on the Las Vegas Strip on Wednesday resulted in two people being critically injured and one person with a minor injury, police stated.
The police don't think the shooting, which happened after midnight inside a parking structure, was a random act of violence. Officer Laura Meltzer said the shooter or shooters have yet to be identified.
She also said that earlier claims from a police spokesperson that was at the theater lobby were not correct.
"The theater had nothing to do with it. They were not coming from the movie. It was not in the theater lobby," Meltzer said to The Associated Press.
Investigators felt that the shooting stemmed from members of two groups that confronted each other in the parking structure near the UA Showcase 8 Theater, according to Meltzer. The parking lot structure lobby has an entrance that goes into the theater as well as Las Vegas Boulevard.
Although it wasn't clear just how many shooters were involved in the incident, Meltzer said multiple shots were fired.
When police arrived they found a seriously wounded individual in the lobby of the parking structure and another inside the elevator on the fifth floor of the six-story lot. Both of the victims were said to be in critical condition at University Medical Center in Las Vegas and their names haven't been released to the public.
A third victim was found near the street in front of the elevator lobby. He was given treatment at the scene for an injury that Meltzer stated wasn't believed to be life-threatening. The wounded were said to be men, but their ages were not released.
Meltzer said investigators don't feel that the confrontation between the two groups was anything gang-related, but they were still trying to figure out the relationship between them.
