Manchester City will make the trek to St. Mary's to go up against Southampton on Saturday in a Premier League matchup.

The Premier League champions currently find themselves far behind Manchester United by a whopping nine points. A victory over the Saints can decrease that gap by six points, as the United squad doesn't take the field again until Sunday, when they face off against Everton.

Southampton is a different story, currently sitting in 16th in the league with a mere 24 points. The team is coming off a 2-2 tie against Wigan, as the Saints are now three points over them in the tables towards the final relegation spot.

Overall the termination of manager Nigel Adkins hasn't altered the club too much, with new boss Mauricio Pochettino obtaining three draws and a vitory in the last five matchups.

An upset win would give Southampton some more leeway as well as the needed confidence to put them through to a second season in the Premier League.

On the other hand, City can't afford to miss out on anymore points if they intend to ever catch up to United, as Sir Alex Ferguson's club already holds a considerable cushion on top over its rivals atop the standings.
