Sony's upcoming PlayStation 4 may be focused more as an entertainment hub and feature less graphic upgrades.

Japan-based news outlet Nikkei reported rumors on Friday from an unidentified official at Sony that the company is working more toward giving users new playing options rather than big internal upgrades, according to Engadget.

The Nikkei's source claimed that Sony was planning to turn the next PlayStation into a "nerve center" for home entertainment. The console will allegedly be able to connect with mobile devices and share data across the two devices. This would be similar to the sync feature on the PlayStation Vita that allows users to create a dual-screen gaming experience with both consoles, according to CNET.

Gaming executives at Sony reportedly also plan to ditch the iconic design of the DualShock controller for a new model for its next-generation console that will fit in line with the dual-screen experience.

A new controller is possibly in development that will apparently feature motion-sensing and a capacitive touchpad, similar to the back of PlayStation Vita, as well as a Share button, according to PlayStation Universe. The share button on the controller will enable users to upload 15 minutes of gameplay to YouTube.

The PlayStation 4, codenamed Orbis, will still reportedly have top-of-the-line specs that could feature a dual camera PlayStation Eye, according to VG247.

The rumored specifications for the PS4 were released by VgLeaks that includes the following: an 8GB system memory, 2.2 GB video memory, an eight-core AMD64 "Bulldozer" CPU and an AMD R10XX GPU, four USB 3.0 ports, a Blu-Ray drive, 160GB HDD, an audio output equipped with HDMI & Optical, 2.0, 5.1 & 7.1 channels and possibly a new design for the DualShock controller.

Sony confirmed that the Playstation event on Feb. 20 will be live streamed over the Internet for fans eager to see what the tech company will debut, according to GameSpot.
