Apple is reportedly exploring the possibility of manufacturing wearable devices running on iOS currently rumored as the iWatch.

The Cupertino, Calif., based technology giant may be experimenting with a wearable wrist computer that could be made with curved glass, according to a Sunday report by The New York Times.

The iWatch news was also reported by The Wall Street Journal, which cited information based on "people briefed on the effort."

It is still too early to tell at what portion of the production phase Apple is in regarding the new device. It is also unknown if a prototype has been developed or if the project will even see a successful future launch date.

So what are some of the features the iWatch may come with?

Forbes posted a list of suggestions for Apple in regards to the smartwatch that included passwords memory for various devices, television remote capabilities, quick payment options at shops, health statistics such as a heart rate monitor and that it should be able to give walking directions.

Speculation related to a smartwatch was heightened last week when long-time Apple interface designer Bruce Tognazzini blogged that an "iWatch will fill a gaping hole in the Apple ecosystem." Tognazzini offered up some lofty ideas as to what might be possible with an Apple smartwatch, which he thought would have almost limitless capabilities.

The talk of smartwatches also surfaced in January when TechCrunch made the case that Apple's Siri voice-command technology would work best on a wristwatch.

The computerized watch market is still in development but hopes are high for the new type of device.

The startup company Pebble Technology was able to raise $10.3 million last year on Kickstarter in order to develop their own smartwatch, according to The Huffington Post.
