Samsung Galaxy S4 Specs Rumors: Wireless Charger Detailed by FCC Meant for Latest Device?
A series of photos and details about the wireless charger for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 were posted on a filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), proving that Samsung plans to use the Qi wireless charging device.
The standard accessory charger measure 90 mm wide and comes with a curved bed to hold a Samsung smartphone, according to Engadget.
The Qi wireless charger could be planned for another device as it is also wide enough to accommodate the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. However, if it is for the new device, it likely means the Galaxy S4 will be sized in between its two predecessors with approximately a 5-inch display.
Most likely the charger plans filed with the FCC are indeed for the Galaxy S4, which would follow up on rumors from last month that Samsung was working on a wireless charge for the smartphone, according to Android Authority.
The charging module was rumored to work from distances as great as 6 feet by utilizing a resonant magnetic charging coil rather than electromagnetic induction. The coil would be attached to the back of the Galaxy S4, meaning it will likely come with a larger back plate to accommodate the extra bulge from the coil.
The upcoming flagship device's suggested specs include a boasted 5-inch 1080p display, new Exynos 5 Octa 8-Core processor, 13MP rear camera, a S-Pen in the box and an enhanced Nature UX software skin. It will also come with Android 4.2 pre-loaded onto the device.
The latest flagship device by Samsung will reportedly launch with a wireless charger in April, after announcing it at a special event on March 14, according to SamMobile, which cited an unnamed source close to the smartphone's development.
The source added that the Galaxy S4 will be available for purchase starting first in Western European markets in early April with Asia receiving it before the end of that month. North America, Australia and Africa will reportedly receive the device in May or June.
