PS4 Release Date Feb. 20? Killzone 4 May Be Announced Alongside Sony's Next-Gen Console
Sony will hold a PlayStation event on Feb. 20 where the company may unveil its next-generation console along with Killzone 4 as the debut title.
A new report by Videogamer cited an industry source that said Killzone 4 will be released alongside the upcoming PlayStation 4. The Killzone series has traditionally been used to showcase Sony's new hardware.
Killzone 2 was announced at E3 2005 along with the PS3. Killzone 3 did not come out with a new console but was featured with the new PlayStation Move and 3D support.
Killzone Mercenary is one of the big upcoming releases for the PS Vita.
It is only fitting that Killzone 4 is launched side-by-side with the PlayStation 4.
Guerrilla Games, the Sony-owned Dutch studio behind the Killzone franchise, hasn't released a new game since Killzone 3 was released in 2011, according to IGN. Other possible game announcements that could be revealed at the Sony event include Gran Turismo, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance and God of War.
Sony's Feb. 20 event, titled "See the Future," will reportedly discuss the future of PlayStation, but the release date for next-generation console will be announced.
If Sony does unveil the PlaySation 4, it will likely be released later in the fall and possibly in time for the London Games Conference in November. MCV reported that the Nov. 13 event will focus on the new hardware expected to shape the gaming industry over the next half-a-decade, which would give Sony the perfect environment to unveil the PS 4.
The rumored specifications for the PS4 include the following: an 8GB system memory, 2.2 GB video memory, an eight-core AMD64 "Bulldozer" CPU and an AMD R10XX GPU, four USB 3.0 ports, a Blu-Ray drive, 160GB HDD, an audio output equipped with HDMI & Optical, 2.0, 5.1 & 7.1 channels and possibly a new design for the DualShock controller.
