Conner Bird, Larry Bird's Son Arrested After Trying To Strike Ex-Girlfriend With Car At Indiana University, Details
The son of Boston Celtics Hall of Fame basketball legend Larry Bird, was put under arrest at Indiana University on Sunday, according to Indiana University Police Department Chief Keith Cash.
Connor Bird, who is 21-years-old, reportedly attempted to strike his ex-girlfriend with a vehicle following an argument. The NBA legend's son is now set to face multiple preliminary charges, Cash stated, according to USA Today.
The respective charges include battery with injury, criminal mischief, intimidation with a deadly weapon as well as possession of marijuana.
Trouble began to brew after Bird and his former squeeze got into a heated dispute on Sunday at his Bloomington apartment. Police state that during the ordeal, Bird picked up a cell phone and threw it at the female.
The police said that Bird then waited at his ex-girlfriend's house, eventually bringing her to a nearby parking lot in order to talk about their apparent issues.
However, the attempt at reconciliation supposedly failed, as the former couple was said to have gotten into another tiff. The woman then got out of Bird's car with the intentions of walking her way back home.
Police say that is when Bird tried to strike the female with his car twice. Another Indiana University student was said to have witnessed the entire incident, and brought the woman to the Indiana University Police Department.
As of 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, no formal charges have yet to be filed against Bird by the Monroe County prosecutor, stated an administrative assistant at the office of the prosecutor.
Indianapolis attorney John L. Tompkins, who is representing Bird, refused to give any comments regarding the allegations against his client.
"This is a very private matter that we're going to try to resolve quickly. We're thankful that no one was seriously injured," stated the attorney.
