President Obama Revealed First Daughter Malia Is Dating, Video of Announcement
During one of his campaign stops in Georgia to push his plans on education, President Obama revealed on Thursday that his eldest daughter Malia is officially dating, according to ABC News.
Check out snippets of President Obama's speech from yesterday right here:
"I do have to warn the parents who are here, who still have young kids, they grow up to be, like five feet 10 inches. And even if they're still nice to you, they basically don't have a lot of time for you during the weekends," the president told the crowd. "They have sleepovers and dates. So all that early investment just leaves them to go away."
An official for the White House refused to comment on or clarify the president's comments.
Both the president and his wife talked in past interviews about the chance of their daughters' dating in the future but never confirmed a relationship out of respect for their children's privacy.
The president made the comment about Malia dating during opening remarks of his education plan, which he discussed in great length in his State of the Union address on Feb. 12. His plan called for universal access to pre-kindergarten programs in order to improve both academic and life skills.
"The size of your paycheck, though, shouldn't determine your child's future. So let's fix this," he said on Thursday. "Let's make it a national priority to give every child access to a high-quality early education. Let's give our kids that chance."
President Obama did not wait long after closing his speech on Thursday, since he had plans for a romantic evening in Washington with his wife for Valentine's Day.
"I can't imagine a more romantic way to spend Valentine's Day than with all of you, with all the press here," Obama joked. "Actually, Michelle says hello. She made me promise to get back in time for our date tonight. That's important.
"I've already got a gift, got the flowers. I was telling folks, the flowers are a little easier, though, because I got this rose garden. A lot of people, you know, keeping flowers around."
