Pit Bull Saves Family From Fire At Home and Five Other Dogs In Oklahoma, Video
A 10-year-old pit bull was coined a hero after reportedly saving a family and the rest of their dogs on two occasions during a house fire that occurred in Wellston, Okla., on Tuesday.
Rhonda Westenberger and her sister Evelyn Westenberger were sound asleep when their home of 17 years abruptly began to fill with smoke and flames, according to KOCO. The pit bull, whose name is Baby, allegedly began to bark and pounce on them continuously until they awoke from their deep sleep.
"There were flames shooting down the hallway. If Baby hadn't woken Evelyn up, I don't think either one of us would have come out of it," Rhonda explained to the news station.
The two sisters inside the flame-ridden house managed to run out to their safety but the rest of the five dogs were still trapped inside the home. Baby came to the rescue yet again, as the dog headed back inside the resident and saved them as well.
"There was one hiding underneath the bed. Baby actually went in there grabbed it by the neck and drug it outside," family member Charles Land said. "[Baby has] always come across to us as one of the family and this just proves it."
Although the family lost nearly everything in their possession, they said that the pit bull's heroics are keeping them full of hope and faith.
"It brings my spirit up a lot to see the dogs. I'm so proud of her. She is my hero. She's the hero for all of us," said Rhonda.
