Brothers Win Lottery, Blow Up House in Drug Related Accident After $75k Lottery Win Celebration
Two brothers in Kansas celebrated winning $75,000 from the state lottery with the purchase of drugs that may have led to their house accidently blown up.
The explosion took place Friday in Wichita after the brothers used the money in their lottery prize to purchase a large quantity of meth and marijuana to celebrate.
During the evening the brothers, needed to refuel the butane torches that they used to light their bongs.
The celebration ended when one brother attempted to refill the torches with several large cans of lighter fluid and inadvertently released gas that was ignited by a local pilot light in the kitchen.
Sgt. Bruce Watts of the Wichita Police Department was quoted by The Wichita Eagle saying, "The butane vapor reached the pilot light in the furnace, and as you might expect, ka-boom."
The explosion resulted in bodily injuries for the 27-year-old younger brother who was taken by his girlfriend to get help. She dropped him off at the emergency room at the Via Christa Hospital and promptly left the scene after the victim arrived for treatment.
The incident left the injured brother with second-degree burns on his hands, arms and chest. He reportedly is in serious, but stable condition, according to the Kansas City Star.
Local authorities in Wichita were called to the damaged home after the explosion was reported by neighbors.
Officers entered the home with a warrant and the other brother allegedly admitted to having marijuana and methamphetamine. He was promptly taken to jail by local authorities on drug possession charges.
Officials have yet to release the names of the individuals involved in the incident.
It is also unknown how much of the brother's $75,000 will be spent on repairs to the house, medical expenses, and the large legal fees that resulted from their botched celebration.
