A New York CBS news anchor was arrested Sunday morning for choking his wife in their Darien, Conn., home.

Police received a phone call early Sunday morning from Rob Morrison’s mother-in-law citing a domestic disturbance. Morrison got into an altercation with his wife Ashley Morrison, who is a reporter for CBS Money Watch, which escalated when he attempted to strangle her. Police arrived at the scene to find Ashley with red marks around her neck.

Police said Rob, a CBS 2 This Morning anchor, continued to threatened his wife as he was being arrested and that Ashley refused any medical attention.

A mug shot was released of Rob that featured the anchor with a cut on the bridge of his nose and a swollen lip. He posted $100,000 bond and is due in court on Tuesday, where he faces charges of strangulation, threatening and disorderly conduct.

The embattled newsman posted a statement about the incident via his attorney’s office on his Twitter page Monday.

The lawyer, Robert A. Skovgaard, said Rob and Ashley are cooperating fully with authorities to insure that all of the information necessary to properly evaluate the incident is made available. He said the Morrisons are confident that a full review of this matter will show that the allegations have been greatly exaggerating. Closing, Skovgaard said he hoped the Morrison’s privacy will be respected.

This isn’t the first time police had to break up a fight between the couple. In 2009, Rob was arrested for assaulting Ashley in their upper Manhattan apartment. Between 2003 and 2009 cops were reportedly called to their residence on a number of occasions but no arrests were made.

Prior to anchoring at CBS, Rob worked at NBC but left the network in 2008 because his wife suspected that he was cheating with an intern.
