A New York man that was at one time given the moniker as the most wanted deadbeat parent, pleaded guilty on Thursday to owing in excess of $1.2 million to three children from two previous marriages.

ABC News reports that Robert Sand, 50, pleaded guilty in Central Islip, N.Y., at the U.S. District Court to two counts of failing to pay child support. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Bode said in court that the child support orders that were issued on Long Island, have been owed since as early as 2002.

Bode cited the unspecified monies owed by Sand also included interest and penalties, but declined to comment after the court proceeding.

Sand informed the judge that he first fled to Florida before heading to Thailand. Sand's attorney, Glenn Obedin, said his client was tired of living as a convict on the run and contacted police late in 2012.

Sand left Thailand, where he had worked an array of odd jobs and took a flight to the Philippines. He was then put under arrest and deported from the Philippines in November 2012 due to a lack of proper identification, according to prosecutors.

Sand was then sent to Los Angeles, where he was taken into custody by federal marshals and then transported to New York, where he's been behind bars without bail since December.

"He had enough and wanted to come back and have the opportunity to make it right," Obedin told reporters following the Long Island court proceeding.

The two mothers of Sand's three offspring weren't inside the courtroom for Thursday's proceeding, but Obedin said he's contacted them and claimed their priority is for him to be free in order to work and repay his debt.

As per the plea agreement, Sand is required to make full restitution. He's waived his right to appeal the guilty plea.

Sand is looking at up to four years in prison when he faces his sentencing in May.
