Sony unveiled the new Android-powered Xperia Tablet Z on Monday at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The company claimed that the device is the "world's thinnest 10.1-inch tablet" as it measures in at 0.27 inches thick and weighs 1.09 pounds, according to a Sony press release.

The device comes with a sleek outer build and impressive inner specs.

The tablet has a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels and uses an NTSC color palette of 16 million hues to deliver a viewing experience akin to watching TV.

Powering the Tablet Z is Google's Android Jelly Bean operating system with 4.1 pre-installed with a later upgrade for 4.2 to follow. The specs also include a Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core CPU, clocked at 1.5GHz and 2GB of RAM. Storage comes in at 16GB for $500, or 32GB for $600, according to ABC News. Each model of the Tablet Z will sport a microSD card slot, which can handle up to an additional 64GB of storage, as well as an 8-megapixel rear camera, that can shoot up to 1080p video. And up front, it'll have a 2.2-megapixel, 720p camera.

The company's latest device improves on the specs and handling of its predecessor, the Xperia Tablet S, which debuted last year, according to Time Magazine.

The Tablet Z has similar features to the Tablet S such as a built-in IR blaster and an app that will allow owners to use the device as a universal remote for TVs, Blu-ray and DVD players, and home theater receivers.

Another big feature is that the Xperia Tablet Z is apparently waterproof in up to three feet of water for 30 minutes.

Sony will also market an NFC connectivity build of the device called the One-Touch.

There is no official release date currently announced for the Sony Xperia Tablet Z.
