iOS 6 Evasi0n Jailbreak May Be Blocked by Apple's iOS 6.1.3 Update for iPhone 5, iPad 4
Apple is reportedly getting ready to release an update for iOS 6 that will block people from using the latest jailbreak for the device.
The tech giant issued the iOS 6.1.3 beta update to developers late last week, suggesting that a full release to users could come within the next month.
The first untethered iOS 6 jailbreak known as evasi0n was released on Feb. 4 and it eliminates the limitations forced by Apple on devices running the company's latest operating system through the use of software tweaks on devices.
David Wang, one of the creators of the evasi0n jailbreak, told Forbes that the Apple update was tested and it was found that it patches at least one of the five bugs evasi0n exploits. This would reportedly block the jailbreak from working on the updated devices.
"If one of the vulnerabilities doesn't work, evasi0n doesn't work," Wang said. "We could replace that part with a different vulnerability, but [Apple] will probably fix most if not all of the bugs we've used when 6.1.3 comes out."
Apart from blocking the Evasi0n jailbreak, iOS 6.1.3 will also reportedly fix the lock-screen bug that has troubled users, according to TechRadar.
Apple attempted to warn users about messing with the operating system before the jailbreak was officially released. The company posted a warnings list on the dangers of jail breaking with potential problems that include program instability, dropped phone calls, security vulnerability and the shortening of battery life. Users who use the jailbreak process on their devices will also have their warranties voided.
The evasi0n jailbreak is compatible with iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, and 6.1 devices. It also supports a variety of Apple devices including the iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, iPad 4, 3, 2, iPad Mini, iPod Touch 5 and 4.
The jailbreak will also work with Apple TV 2 but currently is not supported for Apple TV 3.
