iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 Release Date August?; Rumored 'Cheap Edition' iPhone in Development
Apple will reportedly release the iPhone 5S in August along with a more affordable version of the popular handset.
The new iPhone 5S release date rumor comes from Chinese tech website EMSOne that posted information on Friday about the new devices being manufactured for Apple.
AppleInsider reported that Barclays Capital analysts claim in the Chinese report that iPhone 5S orders have already been placed with the manufactures at Foxconn and could be ready for a release in August.
The new rumor also suggests that Apple is planning to release a "cheap edition" of the iPhone.
However, the company has not released any official statements about trying to capture the cheap phone market, but one executive said it is not in Apple's current business plan.
Apple's Senior Vice President of Marketing Phil Schiller was interviewed by China's Shanghai Evening News and insisted that his company is not planning to develop a cheap consumer phone.
"Despite the popularity of cheap smartphones [in China], this will never be the future of Apple's products," the executive reportedly said, according to a translation from The Next Web.
Still the rumors continue about the iPhone 5S and even the iPhone 6 as alleged prototype tests were conducted by Apple.
Peter Misek, an analyst for Jefferies, hinted that the Apple is testing a new "low-cost" iPhone that would be "similar to the iPad Mini" in its execution, according to Know Your Mobile. He also stated that the one of the phones would likely feature a polycarbonate case with a 4-inch non-Retina Display screen and no 4G capabilities. The other device is rumored to have a larger 4.8-inch display.
Rumors were also incited after supposed leaked images of Apple's iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 were reported by a French website Nowhereelse.fr last month. The images were apparently leaked online by an employee of the Far Eastern company which manufactures the parts for Apple, according to The Daily Mail.
The latest August unveiling is later than a previous unspecified date in June, according to PC-Tablet.
