Samsung Galaxy S4 Release Date March 14; Specs, Rumored Features Include Eye Tracking Technology
It appears that Samsung's Galaxy S4 smartphone will allegedly have built-in eye tracking technology.
A new report by The New York Times on Monday cited an unnamed person who has already used the next-generation device and stated that it can track the movement of a human eye in order to perform certain tasks.
The recent rumor follows the line of previous reports in January that Samsung filed two new trademarks in Europe called Eye Scroll and Eye Pause.
There are currently no specific details on the purpose of the trademarks, but the names give eager consumers a possible idea that they will be used for an advanced system using a person's eye to operate the device in a way currently not seen in other gadgets.
It is likely that the Eye Pause feature will track the direction of the user's glance and possibly stop a video if it is not being viewed after a certain amount of time. The Eye Scroll feature will likely operate the same way and could be used for browsing a web page on the device, as a user's eyes scroll down the screen display.
The Galaxy S4 is expected to be unveiled on March 14th.
Samsung tweeted a link on Feb. 25 to a press invite for an event in New York City with the tag line "Ready 4 the show. Come and meet the new Galaxy."
The current rumored specs for the handset include a boosted 5-inch 1080p display, new Exynos 5 Octa 8-Core processor, 13MP rear camera, a S-Pen in the box and an enhanced Nature UX software skin. It will also come with Android 4.2 pre-loaded onto the device.
The Exynos 5 Octa is an 8-Core processor which is said to be very advanced compared to the technology currently used in the top smartphones on the market, according to Android Geeks.. The processor will run on a Cortex-A7 chip for light tasks as well as a Cortex-A15 for more sophisticated necessities to conserve energy.
