Apple is rumored to release the new iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 in April.

The tech giant is reportedly giving "serious consideration" to the thought of an April iPad launch, according to a report from the tech blog iMore.

The blog cited that the information came from an unnamed source that allegedly is familiar with Apple's upcoming plans for the next-generation tablets.

The iPad Mini 2 will reportedly build on the specs of its predecessor that was released in October.

The next-generation mini tablet will likely measure in at around 7.9-inch and may feature a high -resolution IGZO Retina display. However, the source quoted by iMore suggested that if the iPad Mini 2 does launch in April it will most likely not feature the Retina display.

The miniature tablet could also pack a more powerful processor similar to the A6X 1.4GHZ dual-core chip currently in the iPad 4, according to Trusted Review.

The April release rumor follows a previous report by Apple Insider that cited a note from Apple to its clients that was released by Gene Munster, an analyst for Piper Jaffray.

The note stated that an event would take place in early Q2 to unveil a brand new iPad version.

"We believe that looking at history of time between Apple product launch events suggests that the company will introduce something new in March or April," the note stated. "Over the past two years, the spring event has been iPad updates."

The other prevailing release date rumor stated that the iPad 5 would be unveiled in October, according to iLounge.

The iPad 5 will reportedly feature a thinner and lighter frame with rounded edges and aluminum backing similar to the iPad mini, according to 9 to 5 Mac.

It may also feature an upgraded Retina display, a variety of internal spec upgrades, and new color options for users.
