Chris Zorich, a former NFL player, was charged yesterday for four misdemeanor federal offenses for allegedly failing to file his income taxes and is preparing to plead guilty.

According to NBC, Zorich, 43, did not file federal income tax returns from 2006 to 2009. During that time, he reportedly made more than $1 million.

The once Notre Dame All-American could face up to four years in prison but his attorney, Mathias Lydon, is hoping to keep him out of jail.

Lydon said that Zorich has "been looking forward to the day he could start putting this behind him," according to the Associated Press.

Aside from the tax case, he has been the subject of an Illinois investigation for soliciting donations into 2010 for his charity, the Chris Zorich Foundation, though it stopped doing charitable work in 2008.

Zorich's cousin and charity executive director Barbara Singer, who had cancer, died in 2008.

He retired from the NFL in 1997 and played most of his career as a defensive tackle for the Chicago Bears.
