A sports utility vehicle struck a guardrail on March 10 and flipped over into a pond in northeastern Ohio killing six of the eight teenage passengers, state highway patrol said.

The Honda Passport, which was taken without permission, was licensed to a Youngstown resident roughly 20 miles away, Lt. Brian Holt said. It is unclear where the teenagers were going when the crash occurred at roughly 7 a.m.

Authorities noted an unspecified high rate of speed associated with the crash but wouldn't speculate whether alcohol or drugs were involved.

"All I know is my baby is gone," said Derrick Ray, who came to the site of the crash after seeing his 15-year-old son Daylan Ray's body at the local morgue.

Derrick said he knew his son, a skilled football player who was looking forward to playing in high school, was out with his friends. However, he wasn't aware of their plans. Daylan's 12-year-old half sister, Mariah Bryant, wrote a letter for her late brother and left it at the memorial.

"It hurts, it really does, because they are so young and, like, they could have had so much more to life," she said. "We just really started getting close, and it's hard to believe he's gone."

She only learned a year ago that Daylan was her brother.

Also killed in the crash were 19-year-old Alexis Cayson, 14-year-old Andrique Bennett, 17-year-old Brandon Murray, 15-year-old Kirklan Behner and 15-year-old Ramone White. Officials identified Cayson as the driver of the vehicle as well as the only female in the SUV.

"She was loving. She was silly and she was a clown. She liked to make everybody laugh even when we were sad," Ashia Cayson told CNN about her sister.

The two survivors - Brian Henry, 18, and Asher Lewis, 15, - escaped from the vehicle and ran a quarter-mile to a residence to call 911, Holt said. They were treated for bruising and other injuries but later released.
