Visine Poisoning: Boyfriend Accused of Making Girlfriend Sick After Argument with the Victim (Video)
A California woman is recovering from reportedly being poisoned by her boyfriend when he put Visine eye drops in her beverage.
Shayne Carpenter, a 27-year-old mechanic, was taken into custody by the Nevada County Sheriff's Office on March 7 in Grass Valley, Calif., on poisoning and domestic violence charges.
Police said a fight ensued with his girlfriend before he decided to put eye drops in her drink, causing her to become ill. Lt. Steve Tripp of the Nevada County Sheriff Department informed ABC News that Carpenter's girlfriend grew suspicious after she found text messages to his friends about the alleged prank.
"He was making texts to his buddies that if 'She's going to be talking crap then she's going to be crapping,' " Tripp said.
Police said that Carpenter's girlfriend wasn't feeling well and contacted law enforcement after finding the troublesome texts, suspecting her boyfriend to be the one who poisoned her. As part of the investigation, police had Carpenter's girlfriend call him about the poisoning.
"We got admissions from him over the phone, when he was admitting to her, that he had done this," Tripp said.
Authorities said Carpenter's girlfriend, who still remains unidentified, was treated in the hospital and then released. After posting a $25,000 bail, Carpenter was released from jail on March 8.
