11 Injured in DC Drive-By Shooting [VIDEO]
A drive-by shooting in northern Washington left 11 people hurt and one seriously injured outside an apartment building Monday.
Surveillance videos showed two cars speed-racing down the street at about 2:10 a.m. near New York Avenue and North Capitol Street. Police said gunshots came from at least one of the two cars and aimed at a crowd nearby, who ran for cover, according to ClarionLedger.com.
Assistant police chief Peter Newsham said "We've got to interview a ton of witnesses, as detectives are working to piece together evidence and remnants from the bullets."
The shooters were thought to have been driving an older-model BMW and a light or grey sedan.
An updated report stated that 13 victims were involved in the shooting.
All of the victims were said to be conscious and breathing- the most seriously injured was shot in the back.
Lanier said a club across the street from where the crowd was standing was believed to have let out 15 minutes earlier. Meanwhile, News4 reporter Pat Collins reported that there may have been an altercation at the nearby club which sparked the shooting, according to NBC Washington.
Multiple people were shot and wounded on consecutive weekends last October in the same area as this past shooting, but it is unclear as to whether these incidents were connected.
