Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday.

Smith played with the 49ers for eight years.

it was disclosed that the 49ers got the Chief's second round draft pick, Mercury News reported. Trent Baalke, the 49ers' general manager, said in a statement, "We would like to thank Alex for his contributions to the 49ers organization over the past eight years. He is a true professional who represented the 49ers with class on and off the field."

The 49ers also confirmed Tuesday that they picked up Anquan Boldin, wide receiver from the Baltimore Ravens, for an undisclosed draft pick. Baalke said about Boldin, "He is a highly competitive and productive player with strong leadership qualities that will be a welcome addition to our team and community."

He was credited for mentoring his backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who was the starting quarterback when the 49ers played the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl in February 2013.

Smith is also known for helping the community with his Alex Smith Foundation, which helps former foster teens get into college. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, he started the foundation in 2005 after he was drafted in the NFL. His mother, who works in social services, took Smith to San Pasqual Academy, a school for foster teens outside of San Diego. The visit inspired Smith to start a foundation, also because he was 20 years old at the time and close in age to the teens who were getting too old to be in the foster system.
