A US Airways flight that took off from Maui heading to Phoenix, Ariz. on Monday night was diverted due to a maintenance issue, according to Fox2now.

The plane instead landed in Honolulu at about 2:00a.m. Tuesday. While the number of passengers on the flight is not confirmed, with Fox2now reporting the number as 153, all passengers and crew members were reported as safe. They were provided with hotel rooms while they waited for their rescheduled flight.

When crew members noticed a fault in the plane's pressurization and air conditioning kits less than halfway through the flight, they decided to be cautious and turn the plane around, according to ABC 15.

Airline spokesman Todd Lehmacher said one of the kits of the Boeing 757 had malfunctioned, according to the report.

The plane is being inspected and is waiting on repairs, although it is unknown exactly what the problem is, Fox2now reported.

According to Lehmacher, about half of the passengers had rescheduled to leave Tuesday night and the other half were rebooked on other airlines, said ABC 15. While the diversion caused inconvenience for the passengers, changing directions to ensure their safety did not cause more than a day's delay.
