Detailing the Boston Globe investigation into sexual abuse within the Catholic Church, Spotlight was officially named Best Picture of 2015 by the Academy Awards.
The film only won one other award at the ceremony, with Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer winning for Best Original Screenplay. With only two wins, this is the lowest win total for a movie that won Best Picture since The Greatest Show on Earth in 1953.

It was thought to be a close race for this entire award season between Spotlight, The Big Short and The Revenant. Predictions were all over the place heading into the ceremony, with many award pundits placing their bets on The Revenant.
