Chrysler is recalling around 2,500 Dodge Challenger muscle cars with V-6 engines after a fault in the wiring has been discovered, which can cause cars to overheat and catch on fire.

The Challengers apparently have a short in the wiring circuit which could possibly set the car on fire. The model being recalled is specifically ones with V-6 engines which were produced in an 8-week period that ended in Jan. 24. 2013.

The carmaker didn't identify wear the short occurs.

The company said in a statement that seven fires reportedly damaged cars but no one was hurt. Cars will be loaned to owners of the Dodge Challengers while the cars are fixed.

Chrysler is working to notify owners and will transport the cars to dealerships in an effort to resolve the problem and repair the cars.

The recall includes 1,900 cars that remain in dealer lots that have not been sold as of yet.

According to spokesman Eric Mayne, a shipment of electrical components that were not configured properly arrived at the car assembly plant which had to be reworked. However, the change in the configuration is believed to have cause the short circuits.
