A man is suing Dr. Mehmet Oz after he suffered burns via a sleep remedy suggested by the TV host.

Frank Dietl, 76, filed a lawsuit in Manhattan's Supreme Court this week claiming he got third-degree burns on his feet after following a sleep tip given by Dr. Oz in a 2012 episode of his show, according to The Inquisitr.

In an episode that aired on April 17, 2012, Dr. Oz recommended a cure for insomnia. He said filling a pair of socks with uncooked rice, heating it up in the microwave and then wearing the socks for about 20 minutes could help people sleep better.

ABC noted that Oz did warn viewers to not let the socks "get too hot."

Dietl said he used the remedy but the New Jersey resident, who suffers from neuropathy and experiences "diminished sensation in his feet," wasn't aware his feet were burning as he slept. He was confined to his bed for several weeks, according to the report.

"What upset me was that Oz should have had a disclaimer for people with neuropathy," Dietel said.

Dr. Oz's spokesperson, Tim Sullivan, defended the show by saying the Dr. Oz cast "[stands] by the content in our program as safe and educational for our viewers."
