A Minnesota school district locked down several of its buildings on Wednesday following a 911 call that authorities later determined was a hoax orchestrated by a 12-year-old boy, wh was then arrested for making the call.

According to the USA Today, The 8 a.m. emergency prank call resulted in the lockdown of the New Prague school district's middle school, high school and Central Education Campus buildings, which were about 45 miles southwest of Minneapolis. Scott County Sheriff Kevin Studnicka said the prankster claimed he was inside one of the school's buildings.

"He claimed he needed help because there was a shooter in the building with an AK-47 and that there were a couple of victims," he said.

Studnicka went on to say that the dispatchers asked for the boy's cell phone number, but he said it was a new phone and that he wasn't aware of it. Police Chief Mark Vosejpka said that the police and deputies rapidly determined that nobody was hurt upon their arrival to the schools and honed in on the 12-year-old boy.

Parents on their way to the scene were directed to a church close by. Students were asked to leave the premises by the end of the morning. Classes were cancelled for the remainder of the day but are expected to resume on Thursday. Click here for a video.
