Killer’s Mother Pleads: Craiglist Killer Richard Beasley's Mom Wants His 'Life Spared,' VIDEO
Carol Beasley, the mother of three-time killer Richard Beasley, testified on Wednesday to a jury considering life in prison or the death penalty for her son.
Richard, 53, lured in his victims with a Craigslist ad offering a farmhand job in southeast Ohio in 2011, according to NBC. He killed three men and injured one.
Richard was convicted last week and Judge Lynn Callahan will sentence him on March 26. The jury on Wednesday suggested the death penalty as an option without the chance of parole or life in prison with a chance of parole after 25 or 30 years, according to the news report.
"Of course I'd be worried about the death penalty," his mother said in an interview after court adjourned. "But I will say what I can say and I'm sure his attorneys will do what they can do. And my prayer would be that his life would be spared."
Carol said her son had a troubling childhood and suffered from emotional and sexual abuse. She also discussed that he had a troubling relationship with his stepfather, who was verbally and mentally abusive.
The men who Richard killed were 56-year-old Ralph Geiger of Akron, Ohio; David Pauley, 51, of Norfolk, Va., and Timothy Kern, 47, of Massillon, Ohio. The survivor, Scott Davis, said he heard the sound of a gun click when he arrived to meet Beasley. Davis suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.
Davis said in an interview after the trial, "Justice has been served."
Psychologist John Fabian testified that Richard suffers from depression, alcohol abuse and low self-esteem that could be a result from his childhood.
