Vegas 98 Arrests: Police Arrest Culinary Union Protesters on Las Vegas Strip Outside Cosmopolitan Hotel Casino [VIDEO]
Police arrested 98 union workers in Las Vegas who were protesting outside of the Cosmopolitan Hotel Casino on Wednesday.
Union spokeswoman Yvanna Cancela said this was the first time the members of the Culinary Union displayed civil disobedience in more than two decades, according to The Associated Press.
The protesters shut down rush hour traffic on the Las Vegas strip for more than an hour and were chanting, "If we don't get no contract, you don't get no peace," as they waited to be taken away by the police in a white police bus.
The union, which is considered the largest and most powerful union in Las Vegas, reportedly has been in contract talks for two years with Deutsche Bank, Cosmopolitan Las Vegas owner.
Protester Janet Hill, a porter at the Flamingo casino, had her hands zip-tied before she was arrested. She said, "They need to give workers here a contract; it affects us all."
The contract negotiations will open up in April, according to the publication.
There were two one-day pickets outside of the casino earlier this year and there are 54,000 members in the union.
The Cosmopolitan is 2-years-old and the protesters have been worried that Deutsche Bank might sell the casino and that's why there are stalls with the contracts, according to the publication.
