Aurora Shooter Islam? James Holmes, Colorado Movie Theater Killer, Converts Following Massacre
Colorado movie theater shooter James Holmes reportedly converted to Islam and now prays five times a day.
A prison source told Daily Mail Holmes turned to the religion to justify killing 12 people and injuring 58 at the Aurora shooting on July 20 during a Dark Knight Rises premiere.
Holmes was seen with a beard when he appeared in court in early March and the source attributed the facial hair to his new faith. The judge entered a not guilty plea on Holmes's behalf and on April 1, a decision will be made whether or not the court will pursue the death penalty. Holmes was charged with 166 counts including murder and attempted murder.
The source reportedly told The National Enquirer the following of Holmes, who studies the Koran and eats a Muslim diet: "He has brainwashed himself into believing he was on his own personal jihad and that his victims were infidels."
The source also said many Muslim inmates don't want their religion connected with the shooting, adding, "None of them condone forms of terrorism or extremism. And they don't want their religion to be connected to that awful shooting."
The trial for Holmes is set to begin August 5.
