'Instagram' Update: How Can You Beat The System? Company Tries To Quell Panic Over Changes [VIDEO]
Instagram users are all a flutter, and not in the Twitter-tastic way the company wants.
Currently, Instagram utilizes Twitter's timeline formula to bring the most recent snaps to followers. The system insures that all a poster's photos make it to their friends, but all that is about to change. Soon, the pic of your cat might find itself buried beneath that concert from last week as popularity dictates the display order.
"To improve your experience, your feed will soon be ordered to show the moments we believe you will care about the most," Instagram announced on March 15. "The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you'll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post...all the posts will still be there, just in a different order."
Although the algorithm change won't kick in for a few more months, the announcement has some users in a panic. Worried that their precious moments won't make it to their friends as celebrity posters take the lead, worried 'gramers are asking their followers to enable push notifications so images pop up as their uploaded.
The big problem? Nobody wants to receive a truckload of notifications, particularly not all from one place. To quell the rising panic, Instagram released an update on Monday.
For the moment, users should just sit tight. According to Hello Giggles, if you like an image, make sure to physically "like" it to ensure that when the changes do kick in, Instagram will know which of your fav accounts to show up top.
