Gwen Stefani Twitter: Leaves 'The Voice' After Mentor Role On Season 10 [VIDEO]
Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera used to alternate roles as coach on The Voice, but while season 11 would typically be Stefani's turn, she was not included in the coaching lineup for the upcoming fall season.
At the end of last week, Miley Cyrus confirmed she would be added to the cast for season 11, while neither Stefani or Aguilera would appear. So, does that mean fans won't be seeing any more of Stefani and Aguilera?
According to a report by Hollywood Life on Monday, Stefani and Aguilera will be staying busy with other opportunities during season 11, but that doesn't mean they won't be back for season 12, or any other future season of the hit series.
“The opportunity that The Voice gives the coaches in doing other things is amazing," a source told the outlet. "Gwen and Christina are taking those stepping stones to do other things, like record more music, work on a tour, and be involved in a handful of other things. Plus, they love being mothers and want to enjoy their children growing up as well. Both are in The Voice family and will without a doubt return in future seasons.”
As for why NBC chose to bring in Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys for season 12, rather than the returning judges, including Pharrell Williams, a second source claimed the show was trying to stay at the top of their game.
“Now that The Voice is the only game in town they needed to ruffle up things so people will still be talking about the show. They wanted a different edge and fan base and that is exactly what Miley will bring,” a second source told Hollywood Life. With American Idol coming to a close after 15 seasons, The Voice obviously wants to go big and shaking up the judge’s panel is one way to go about that.
But just because Miley’s coming in, doesn’t mean any fan favorites like Gwen Stefani, 46, will be getting the boot. “Everyone will be back eventually, including Gwen. They just have to adapt to make things interesting every season,” our insider adds.
The Voice season 10 airs Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on NBC.
