This weekend, Disney attempted to give Minnie Mouse a makeover by having her walk down the runway Sat. March 23 in Paris wearing a dress designed by Lanvin's Alber Elbaz, reported The Huffington Post.

The new outfit features a long-sleeved navy cocktail dress with padded shoulders and a pink sequined hat, as upgraded from the typical red polka dot dress. Minnie Mouse was also wearing silver slippers.

Controversy sparked last summer after Disney partnered with Barneys in an attempt to give Disney characters a more fashionable look.

The characters were drawn with outfits designed by Dolce & Gabbana and Balmain, featuring skinny models, when this caused companies like change.org to protest and suggest petitions.

"Walt Disney was the one that actually designed Minnie," says Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz.

Minnie has been wearing primarily the red and white outfit since 1928.

"[The Minnie Mouse makeover] was a great challenge and responsibility to do. I just wanted her to shine... I wanted to give her a crown in red, and the dress in blue, (a signature) for Lanvin," Elbaz said.
