Facebook announced plans on Monday to incorporate a "reply" option which will allow users to comment directly on wall posts.

According to CNN, the social media site corrected the problem content creators encountered on the site when they attempted to keep track of conversation threads. Unless the commenters addressed the user directly by their name, it would be difficult to figure out which person is replying to which comment.

Facebook is correcting this issue by introducing reply buttons to individual comments. Users who have more than 10,000 followers will be the first to receive the reply feature. All Facebook desktop users will have the feature on July 10.

"The most active and engaging conversations among your readers will be surfaced at the top of your posts ensuring that people who visit your Page will see the best conversations." Vadim Lavrusik, Journalism Program Manager for Facebook, said on the Facebook+Journalists blog.

Facebook's new feature will make sure users see the comments that are the most engaging and intriguing, with those having the most likes and replies. The algorithm also takes into consideration of the like-wise connections, so that users will be able see a different comment on the top of a post than friends do.

"You and your readers will have the ability to reply directly to comments left on your Page content and start conversation threads, which will make it easier for you to interact directly with individual readers and keep relevant conversations connected," Lavrusik said.

Facebook introduced the feature after months of testing. The company said the new feature can improve conversations and be used to start open dialogues with the community.

Besides the new reply button feature, Facebook will also rank conversation threads based on what's relevant to individual users by configuring the total number of likes, replies and spam reports a thread receives.
