'The Blacklist' Season 3: How Will Red Deal With Liz's Death? Actor Teases Grief & 'Cape May' [VIDEO]
The Blacklist just threw Red Reddington a twist he can't connive his way out of.
Mr. Reddington (James Spader) has the ability to get himself - and his friends - out of any scrape under the sun. He's no necromancer, however, and while he always has upper hand, a backdoor, or a hidden motive, Liz Keen's (Megan Boone) death will be something he can't shoot his way out of.
Titled "Cape May," this Thursday's episode will leave Tom (Ryan Eggold) and the FBI behind as Red deals with Liz's (alleged) passing in his own way.
"Episode 320 is where the Task Force deals with her death," Amir Arison (Aram) told Entertainment Weekly. "In 319, the story focuses on Red and him dealing with his past, his history, and his grief. And then 320, we pick up and it's about a week after her death, and we have a funeral to go to."
So, what exactly does grieving look like for Red? Unlike us, he probably won't stick to the supposition that Liz will return alive and well once more. Instead, he'll take on a case of his own.
"A mysterious beauty on the run from unknown assailants accidentally crosses paths with Reddington and enlists his help to fight back against her attackers," NBC teased.
The peacock network is staying tight-lipped regarding Boone's future with the series. There are many fans who believe that Lizzie's death is merely a cover for Boone's real life maternity leave, but then that begs the question - what could cause the former profiler to disappear the second her fantasies of family life translated into reality? Is she off to find her mother, or is there another storyline at play?
