CBS Analyst Apologizes: Doug Gottlieb Makes 'Diversity' Comment But Charles Barkley Defends [VIDEO]
While covering the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 on Thursday, CBS analyst Doug Gottlieb made a comment on the diversity of the panel that caused an uproar on Twitter.
Gottlieb - who sat alongside Greg Gumbel, Greg Anthony, Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley - poked fun at being the only white analyst and said, "I don't know why you guys ask me, I'm just here to bring diversity to this set, give kind of the white man's perspective."
After his comment, the analysts bantered a bit and started laughing. However, ESPN collge football analyst Mark May used Twitter to express his anger toward the comment, calling Gottlieb a "jackwagon."
He tweeted, "After Doug Gottlieb's ignorant comment on CBS he should be canned."
After that May followed with, "That type of comment is ment for a bar not a national stage. Nice job Gottlieb I hope all the kids 12 and under didn't hear it !"
However Barkley defended Gottlieb, saying that the joke wasn't a big deal. He also called out those who took to Twitter to express their anger.
Barkly said, "He made a joke earlier tonight. All those people on Twitter who are going crazy, which I would never ever do, listen me Kenny, Greg Anthony, and Greg Gumbel didn't take that personally so all you people at home who've got no life who are talking bad about Doug Gottlieb get a life. It's over with and it's no big deal."
