Ric Flair Son Dead: Body Of WWE Wrestler's 25-year-old Son, Reid, Found In North Carolina Hotel Room On Friday; Cause Of Death Unknown
Reid Flair, the 25-year-old son of WWE wrestling star Ric Flair died on Friday, according to an AP report. The cause of death is yet to be determined although authorities said that foul play is not expected.
According to multiple reports, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers received a call at around 10:30 a.m. ET on Friday in which the body of an unresponsive man was reported inside his hotel room.
After the arrival of the officers, authorities were able to identify the deceased man as Reid Flair.
Melinda Morris Zanoni, Ric's agent, released a statement on behalf her client and the Flair family.
"We are heartbroken to confirm that Ric's son, Reid, has passed away today March 29, 2013 in Charlotte, NC.," the statement read. "The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing. Reid was an incredible son, brother, friend, and professional wrestler. No words can describe the grief that Ric and his family are experiencing and they do request privacy during this devastating time."
Reid had spent the last year wrestling in Japan in order to improve on his craft and skills in the ring and hoped to someday follow in his father's footsteps and join him among World Wrestling Entertainment's ranks.
According to wrestling insiders, WWE executives were expected to sign Reid to a contract in the near future, particularly after his father rejoined the entertainment company.
He was back in the U.S. where he had been scheduled to tour with his father this weekend.
In the wake of Reid's death, many of the sport's most popular wrestlers and promotional figures took to Twitter to pay their respects.
Roddy Piper, a famous contemporary wrestler and family friend of the Flair family tweeted, "My heart is with Ric and Reid Flair today! Reid was my son too!"
"To Ric flair and His family, I'm So Sorry for the Loss of Reid, Ric's Son. You Were family to Me," Tweeted Kurt Angle, another famous contemporary of Ric. "GOD Bless You Ric! I Love U"
