Harriet Tubman Twenty Dollar Bill: Best Reasons Why Famous Ex-Slave & Abolitionist Deserves Honor (Via Twitter)
Get out of the way, Andrew Jackson! Harriet Tubman is reportedly going to be the new face of on the U.S. twenty dollar bill.
According to a report, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew will announce the former slave-turned-abolitionist hero will replace the seventh president on the front of the bill. Lew will also reportedly announce that Alexander Hamilton will stay on the front of the ten dollar bill.
Politico was the first to break the news and other media outlets soon confirmed. The change (and Hamilton reprieve) are actually part of a larger shake up to American currency that reportedly includes adding women suffragette leaders to the back of the ten dollar bill as well as civil rights leaders onto the five dollar bill.
The move shouldn't be that surprising. Tubman won an online poll last year of possible women candidates to replace Jackson on the twenty. So far the reactions have been fairly positive with most people taking to social media to voice their support and make the case for why Tubman deserves to be on U.S. currency.
Here are just some of the best reasons we could find being made on twitter.
People may groan about Black History Month, but seeing Harriet Tubman every day forces America to at least remember American slavery.
