Reese Witherspoon went brunette this week, right after taking a birthday trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with her husband.

This style was similar to the one she sported back in 2005 when she won an Oscar as June Carter Cash in Walk The Line.

She changed the color in preparation for her role in The Good Lie. The film features a woman of the Sudanese Civil War who develops a friendship with refugees.

The change of hairstyle was agreed upon by the actress, her hair stylist Londa Vigi and film director Philippe Falardeau to bring more depth to Witherspoon's character.

The Legally Blonde actress turned to colorist and Avon Global Hair Color Expert Lorri Goddard, who helped her change the color that she said "naturally enhances Reese's features," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The colorist added low lights and a lighter brown shade to create depth and texture to create the natural looking cocoa shade.

Goddard began working with the actress when she brought Witherspoon's hair back to blonde after finishing up with Walk The Line.

"It's great to be brunette," she had told reporters at the Venice Film Festival in 2004, according to US Weekly. "Nobody knows who I am. Everybody walks right past me. It's a nice reprieve from my normal self."
