'Civilization VI' News And Release Date: New Trailer, Release Date & Gameplay Details Revealed [VIDEO]
Civilization VI is coming, and it is looking like a pretty awesome game so far. In an announcement on Wednesday, developer Firaxis stated that the highly-anticipated game would be launched for the PC on Oct. 21. Considering that the upcoming game is the first major title in the franchise since Civilization V debuted back in 2010, the expectations for the new game are very high indeed.
With a new trailer and gameplay details being revealed, however, it seems like Firaxis is set to deliver yet another amazing game to its legions of fans this year. One of the reasons, of course, is the fact that the developer opted to keep what is the game's tried and tested elements intact. Lead producer Dennis Shirk assured fans that Civilization VI would be a familiar, yet very memorable ride.
"Everything that Civilization players have loved in Civilization V, we're bringing forward, in addition to putting on the new gameplay from Civilization VI. It'll be like a warm blanket," he said.
Though the full list of gameplay features have not been revealed as of writing, Firaxis stated that the firm is confident fans would embrace the updates to the title's gameplay. Among the most prominent updates include a change in the role of cities and a fully reprogrammed enemy AI.
With regards to cities, the notable structures would play an even bigger role than before. Cities in Civilization VI are bigger, thereby making their management much more elaborate, challenging, and satisfying.
"When you place that first city, after you've played a few times, your mind really starts going and the gears start turning, when you're looking at the area around your city and deciding what kind of city it's going to be. You don't have room for everything, so you're going to have decisions to make," Shirk said.
Apart from the update to the role cities play in the game, the developers also announced that enemy AI would be much more variable this time around. In prior Civilization games, rival AI rulers usually played a predictable role, attacking a player's land without much provocation.
In Civilization VI, player and AI dynamics were fully overhauled, with rival AI rulers now acting and reacting in accordance with their historical beliefs. The player's interactions with the AI have also been updated. Thus, keeping a diplomatic relationship with another ruler is much more challenging now.
With a trailer that fans are branding as something that won't be out of place in a high-budget movie, Civilization VI seems to be another massive hit that is already a winner even before it gets released.
