It's safe to say, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are totally head over heels in love.

During a new interview, Shelton opened up about his relationship with the 46-year-old rocker, revealing that while they may not look like the average couple, the relationship they have simply "works."

"It's not something anybody could've seen coming besides God I guess because it doesn't look like it would make sense," Shelton said during an interview with CMT's Katie Cook, according to a report by E! News on Wednesday. "All I can tell you is that it does. It just makes the most perfect sense for us and where we're at in our lives."

Stefani and Shelton struck up a romance last year after splitting from their former spouses, Gavin Rossdale and Miranda Lambert, months prior.

"I tell people all the time, 'Gwen saved my life last year. She did," Shelton shared. "I think she'd tell you something similar about me.... This thing just happened. It saved my life. Period."

As for the popularity of his new song with Stefani, "Go Ahead and Break My Heart," Shelton credited their highly publicized romance for the overwhelming response.

"There's just been such media craze around us being together, I think that's why there's been a lot of views," he said.

Stefani and Shelton began writing the song just a short while into their romance, and according to Shelton, he began the track's production in an effort to win over Stefani.

"It was odd because we wrote the song last fall sometime," he said. "I started the song just because I was trying to impress her and I sent it to her on like voice memo. Just texted it to her."

Stefani and Shelton debuted their duet on The Voice earlier this month and the song will be featured on his new album, If I'm Honest.
