A new political advocacy group will be headed our way this year aimed to keep the American workforce competitive, encourage more cooperation in Washington and ensure immigration reform passes, PolicyMic reported.
FWD.us, is led by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, leaders from Google and various other tech companies. The group will comprise of individuals from different political ideologies, and will work toward bipartisan policies and solutions.
Zuckerberg emphasized the importance that college education plays in strengthening the American workforce and how the same growth can’t be achieved with today’s immigration policies. He discussed his involvement with the group in an opinions piece for The Washington Post, posted online Wednesday.
"We will work with members of Congress from both parties, the administration and state and local officials," he said. "We will use online and offline advocacy tools to build support for policy changes, and we will strongly support those willing to take the tough stands necessary to promote these policies in Washington,"
Supporters of FWD.us include Dropbox, LinkedIn, Airbnb, Netflix, Yelp and other companies. The group will operate as a 501(c)(4), which means it can receive unlimited campaign contributions. President of FWD.us, Joe Green, also wants to get people involved in the tech community, which will help create jobs in America, including positions resilient to economic fluctuations.
According to the report, this will be an important move for a community long considered to be politically disengaged and it will encourage people involved in the tech community to become politically involved.
