The Space Mountain roller coaster was one of three rides at Disneyland closed over the weekend while the company reviewed employee safety protocols following citations from state regulators.

Citations were received on April 12 by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, according to Disneyland Resorts spokeswoman Suzi Brown. The other rides - Matterhorn Bobsleds and Soarin’ Over California - were not mandatory closures but staff shut them down in attempt to take extra precautions.

"We constantly strive to maintain a safe work environment for our cast members and contractors — and we are reviewing certain protocols," she said.

The citations related to a November incident when a worker was injured while performing maintenance on the exterior of the Space Mountain attraction. According to a description of the citation on the Cal/OSHA website, Disneyland had failed to adequately correct "known fall hazards" that existed on the exterior of Space Mountain.

"Furthermore, Disneyland Resort failed to have approved anchorages or approved tie-backs for contract employees to attach to when performing scheduled exterior building maintenance," the report read.

Matterhorn reopened on Sunday and Brown said it is unclear how long the other two rides will remain closed.

Space Mountain and the Matterhorn Bobsleds are at Disneyland, and Soarin' Over California is at Disney California Adventure.
