Orlando Terror Update: Disney World, Universal Studios On ‘High Alert’ Following Attacks That Leave 50 Dead [VIDEO]
The heart of Central Florida is on high alert this weekend after news broke that a gunman stormed a nightclub in downtown Orlando, killing at least 50 people and severely wounding 50 more. Now, there are several reports that say the area's main tourist attractions, which include Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World are tightening security and taking the necessary measures to assure visitors that they are safe.
In fact, all three theme parks put up metal detectors at their gates several months ago, following the deadly terror attacks in both San Bernardino, California, and Paris, France last year.
According to the Orlando Sentinel on Sunday, many guests visiting the Magic Kingdom entered the theme park through detectors that were in front of the bag check area. One security guard was even seen unzipping a visitor's wallet.
George Aguel, president and chief executive officer of Visit Orlando, says that local community leaders are working with law enforcement as the investigation continues on the mass killing at Pulse nightclub on Saturday night. The gunman has been identified as Omar Mateen. He was killed during a shootout with local police on the scene.
"We continue to work with our community partners on the evolving nature of this incident and have total trust in the dedication of our public officials' leadership during this difficult time," Aguel told the newspaper.
