Audrie Pott Photo & Suicide News: Parents Sue Attackers For Alleged Assault on Saratoga High School Student [VIDEO]
Audrie Pott's parents spoke out for the first time Monday about their 15-year-old daughter's death and said they plan to sue those who allegedly raped the girl, which is believed to be the reason behind her suicide last year.
"There is absolutely no doubt as to the reason she took her life," Pott's stepmother, Lisa, said in a news conference. She shared Pott's final Facebook posts that read, "My life is ruined...I am in hell...My life is over...The whole school knows...."
Three boys were arrested on April 12 and charged with sexual battery for allegedly assaulting Pott at a party last fall. Her family admitted that Pott was intoxicated and passed out during the assault, Radar Online reported. The teen only found out about the rape when she saw a photo from that night posted online.
"If this could happen to my daughter, this could happen to anyone," the victim's mother, Sheila Pott, said.
The Saratoga High School student was described as a gifted pupil, writer and a musician who was part of a middle school band that played for Barack Obama's inauguration. She hanged herself on Sept. 10, 2012.
The three teen boys who were arrested are expected to appear in a private juvenile detention hearing on Tuesday.
