The third installment in the highly successfully Batman Arkham video game series for the Xbox 360 was announced last week. Batman: Arkham Origins will be the follow up sequel to the 2011 game of the year, Batman: Arkham City. As time goes on, tiny little snipets about the game and it's plot are slowly being released.

For this third installment, the mob boss Roman Sionis, also known as The Black Mask will be the main villain in the upcoming sequel set to be released this October. As far as the plot goes, the creators will be taking much from the original fiction of the comic books and adapting it to the game.

It seems that on the eve of Christmas, the mob boss will offer a great fortune up to the most notorious villains of Gotham City for anyone willing to take out the Batman. "It's basically Batman's worst nightmare," says Narrative Director Dooma Wendschuh on GameTrailers. "We have eight of the best assassins in the world who've come together to Gotham City for one night, Christmas Eve of all nights, to kill the Bat."

The Black Mask is one of the lesser known villains in the Batman Franchise, which is why the creators are so eager to introduce him to a newer audience rather than stick with the series staples, such as The Joker or Two-Face.

"We realize that Black Mask is not necessarily as prominent in people's minds as some other classic Batman villains, so we realize we also need to do work to explain why he's really cool and make him felt in the game," says creative director Eric Holmes in an interview for Game Informer. "It's not something people bring a lot of baggage to when you see the Black Mask, so we have to do the work to make him scary."

The crime boss runs Janus Cosmetics, but is secretly the head of The Gotham Mob, his charcter is highly known for being quite brutal and sadistic when it comes to eliminating his prey. Black Mask was first introduced into the Batman back in 1985. His is very wealthy, who had an enormous amount of hatred and hostility towards his parents, whom he eventually murders. The lack mask he wears on his face is permanently attached, which was crafted from the casket his father was buried in. He is a sociopath, whose only pleasure in life is torture.

The decision to add Black Mask as the main villain automatically gives this next installment a more dark and grim tone. More details will emerge as we get closer to the games release.
