Poisoned Bread Labeled As 'Present' Left For 25 German Workers, Tested Positive For Rat Poison, Details
Law enforcement in Germany is in the midst of an investigation after sandwiches left on a company's doorstep marked as a "present" ended up having traces of rat poison.
Police in nearby Cloppenburg stated that roughly 25 workers at the plastics company located in Steinfeld, Lower Saxony, had indulged in the bread filled rolls, according to CNN.
Later in the afternoon, a weird substance was noticed on top of the bread rolls, said the police statement.
The dangerous substance was transported to a hospital in Berlin where it tested positive for rat or mouse poison.
The disturbing realization resulted in 11 people admitting themselves to local hospitals. The victims are currently being monitored by medical staff, but it's still uncertain on how long it would take for the poison to potentially set in.
Fortunately, nobody has yet to show any symptoms related to the bread rolls.
"We don't believe the amount of poison used would have been deadly, but it could have caused serious illness," said Frank Soika, a police spokesman, according to the Associated Press.
The identity of the person behind the incident, as well as the motive still remains unclear. The potency of the poison is also still unknown at this time, the police said.
