Kate Upton Slammed by Victoria's Secret Casting Director
Kate Upton may be Sports Illustrated cover girl, but she'll never walk the runway in a Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
Sophia Neophitou, a fashion editor and a casting director for the show, told the The New York Times that while Upton has appeared in Victoria's Secret catalogs, the model's look is "too obvious" for the runway.
Neophitou likened the curvaceous 19-year-old to a "Page 3 girl," a reference to The Sun, a London tabloid that features photos of barely-clad women. "She's like a footballer's wife, with the too-blonde hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy," she said.
"We would never use'" Upton for the show, Neophitou concluded.
The cover girl is taking the diss in stride, saying she's got what it takes to succeed.
"People told me I couldn’t be fashion, that I’m just an old-fashioned body girl, only good for swimwear," Upton said. "But I knew that I could bring back the supermodel.”
“What can I say?” Upton added. “I’m relatable.”
