2016 Olympics Opening Ceremony Live Stream FREE: How To Watch Rio's Epic Procession Online [VIDEO]
The 2016 Olympics Opening Ceremony is taking place today, Friday, Aug. 5 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - here's how you can watch a free live stream of the whole event.
The Opening Ceremony of the Olympics is always a highly-anticipated event where athletes and officials from nations from all over the world get to show off their flags with pride. 207 countries are participating in the event, which is being held in Maracanã Stadium. As is tradition, Greece will begin the parade and home country Brazil will conclude it.
The budget for this year's Opening Ceremony will be less than in past ceremonies, according to Fernando Meirelles, one of this year's directors.
"I guess I'd be ashamed to waste what London spent (~80M pounds) in a country where we need sanitation, where education needs money ... So I'm very glad we are not spending money like crazy," he said in an interview with Bloomberg.
NBC will be broadcasting the Opening Ceremony starting at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT, with coverage ending at midnight. There is a one-hour tape delay, so it technically won't be a live stream of the event.
However, you can live stream the coverage of the Opening Ceremony at NBCOlympics.com. It is a free link so you don't need to enter any cable subscription information.
Model Gisele Bundchen will be part of the ceremony and put a new post on Instagram previewing the event.
